About us

The Institute started with work on July 13, 1953, when the Sports Alliance of Vojvodina at its meeting decided on the establishment of "Sports Institute of Vojvodina" situated in Novi Sad. During its existence, this Institution expanded its activities adapting to the needs of the development of physical culture of the Province, and in accordance with that changed the names. Already on 23 January 1958 changed the name in "Center for the Advancement of Physical Culture of Vojvodina". The Center was financed from funds that had allocated Commission for Physical Culture of Vojvodina, then from its publishing activities, work of photo-film section, various services in the field of physical culture and the sale of assets from center activities which have already been shut down and basic assets that are no longer for effective use. By working on these tasks, center grew over time in organization which has become more and more scientific research institution.

The first crisis occurred with the establishment of the Faculty of Physical Education in Novi Sad, where the largest number of professional associatesfrom Institute went into that institution, so that at one point Institute remained with only two full-time employees in professional jobs, and was forced to start from the beginning. After a very large and long struggle, Institute survived with the selection and admission of new associates and period of successful work came back, especially its connection with the practice.

Institute changed the name several times, first in the "Republic Institute for Sport with the organizational units in Novi Sad," 17 December 1996. But already 27 June 2002 Vojvodina Assembly decided on the establishment of the Provincial Institute of sport, thus began a new period of work of the old Institute. And in the end, in the "Provincial Institute for Sport and Sports Medicine", in order to harmonize the name of the Provincial Institute for the provision of sport Article 30 of the Law on Sports / '' Sluzbeni glasnik RS, no. 24/2011 / initiated its changes. Changing the name unleashed with Provincial Assembly Decision on Amending the Decision on the Establishment of Provincial Institute of Sport, which Vojvodina Assembly passed on 24 January 2012, and the same was published in the "Sluzbeni glasnik APV, no. 1/2012". Provincial Institute for Sport and Sports Medicine operates as an institution in accordance with the regulations on public services and is a legal entity, with rights, obligations and responsibilities stipulated by the Law, establishment Decision and the Statute.
